Job Specific Duties: - Trains new transcriptionists.
- Organizes and prioritizes assigned work to meet established turnaround times.
- Adequately staffs department to maintain established turnaround times
- Hires, appraises, promotes, terminates and disciplines employees.
- Tests system updates prior to going live.
- Maintains equipment and assesses the condition of equipment and furnishings for repair.
- Expands job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change.
- Assures that all staff is adequately cross-trained within a reasonable time frame.
- Ensures the correct spelling of medical terminology.
- Ensures proper grammar in transcribed reports.
- Ensures all transcription are meeting the standard line count.
- Answers questions regarding departmental and Wuesthoff policies, procedures and operations.
- Refers questions to the appropriate person(s).
- Communicates clearly and concisely with all levels of individuals.
- Complies with confidentiality requirements.
- Works with physician offices in reference to turnaround time compliance.
- Assists others in duties as time allows.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.

TRANSCRIPTIONIST: Full time opening for a qualified candidate who possesses a minimum education level of associate degree or equivalent work experience (2 years transcribing dictation from a hospital or physician office) and continuing education from a school of transcription. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical medicine, surgery, diagnostic tests, radiology, pathology, pharmacology, and the various medical specialties. Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation, and style. Ability to understand diverse accents and dialects and various dictation styles. Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) status preferred. Minimum experience level of two years (more preferred) in an acute care setting using medical terminology in a variety of services. Must be able to sit for certification examination within one year of date of hire. |

DESCRIPTION: The medical Transcriptionist is responsible for transcribing all dictated reports as well as monitoring and prioritizing transcription workload. Transcription includes medical reports, radiology reports, letters, operative reports, discharge summaries, consultations, history and physicals, emergency room reports, progress notes, etc. Duties may include other medical record functions as needed when transcription is current. REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent education. Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) credential preferred. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical/radiology terminology. Requires keyboarding skills with a minimum speed of at least 65 words per minute with a 96% accuracy rate. Knowledge of various computer applications including, but not limited to: word processing, transcription media, email and internet software. Must be a highly motivated person who can accomplish a variety of tasks, while maintaining confidentiality with minimal supervision. |
